Just so I’m clear: Misogyny in advertising on TV is totally okay. Violence on TV is totally okay. Encouraging people to self-diagnose mental illness on TV is totally okay.

Flipping the bird on TV, though, is totally not okay.

Is that pretty much it?

Okay, that’s what I thought. So, allow me to just say something real quick here, okay?

For fuck’s sake, America, it’s not the 1950s any more. Grow the fuck up.

Seriously. Why aren’t we talking about the teleflora advertisement that none-too-subtly argued that women only have sex to acquire goods and services? How is that less offensive than M.I.A. flipping off a camera?

^This.

How do we define what is offensive and what isn’t? I found the MIAs middle finger badass where I find some of the misogynistic ads (like Teleflora and GoDaddy, etc) to be really offensive. They always argue that you have to be completely family-friendly during live events like the superbowl but aren’t the same young children watching these ads during commercial breaks? It’s dumb. I am especially appalled that she had to apologize for it.
